Welcome
to class Y5LD
Miss Davenport
Meet your teacher
Hi, I’m Miss Davenport, and I’m going to be your teacher next year. I am so excited to welcome you to class 5LD. Together, we will learn so many interesting facts throughout our journey in Year 5. I can’t wait for all the
amazing memories we are going to make. It’s going to be an exciting year!
This is my third year teaching at Aston Hall Junior & Infant School but I have worked in school settings for 10 years and I can’t imagine doing anything else. I really love teaching and I believe working with children is a privilege.
I taught most of you when you were in Year 3 and I am looking forward to being a part of your learning and school life again! These final years of primary school are such a special time because we get to take part
in so many wonderful opportunities such as visiting the climbing wall and participating in two residentials – what more could we ask for?
When I am not in school, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I also enjoy playing football and watching my favourite team, Sheffield Wednesday! I love travelling and exploring different cultures, having previously lived in New Zealand and Australia for two years.
Meet your Teaching Assistants
Mrs Stickland
Hi, I’m Mrs Stickland. I have been a Teaching Assistant at Aston Hall for almost 10 years and volunteered here for 2 years before that. I have always worked within the childcare and social work industry and trained as a Nursery Nurse when I left school. I love being a part of primary school life and I have a passion to support all children to achieve their best potential in all areas and believe this is gained by helping them to feel safe and happy. Over the years, I have had the amazing opportunity to experience all year groups in school by supporting and assisting the teachers by carrying out various roles.
My personal life is just as hectic with a 16 year old son, who used to be a pupil here at Aston Hall, and I also have a crazy Border Terrier called Poppy who makes us laugh every day. Some of you will have also seen me around at the local Scout Group in Swallownest. I am the Secretary on the Board of Trustees and am very much involved with all sections; Squirrels, Beavers, Cubs and Scouts. I feel very proud to be able to give back to the community by ensuring children gain the most experiences they can and I work closely with some amazing Section Leaders.
Mrs Wall
I’m Mrs Wall and I have worked at Aston Hall in various roles over the last 4 years and am now a Teaching Assistant, often in Y5 and Y6. I am a qualified primary teacher and taught for 12 years – mostly in year 6. Working with children is really rewarding and seeing them make progress, and grow as people, is why I love my job. It’s really important to develop trusting relationships with our older children as they prepare for the next steps in their education and become confident young people. I enjoy spending some of my time supporting our more vulnerable children too.
Away from work, I had my own cake business for 4 years before my son started school, making birthday cake and supplying a local play town. I enjoy gardening and run the outdoor club at school during the warmer months and a crafty things club in the winter such as macramé or cross stitch. I am very much looking forward to working with you as you move into UKS2!
Areas of Learning
UKS2 have an exciting first term planned with plenty of new learning experiences! In history, we will be learning about The Mayans where we will discover information about key figures and significant events during this time period. We will also be beginning a new geography topic which will be a study of Africa. We will be learning about where it is in the worlds as well as finding out about the human and physical features of different countries in this continent.
Our English lessons are always delivered through high- quality, engaging texts, and this term we are studying ‘Wonder’ by R.J.Palacio. This is a fantastic book with many PSHE links. Whilst studying this novel, we will have many opportunities to write in different styles which will allow us to vary our, viewpoint, audience, language and punctuation. Through this novel, we will be exploring themes such as friendship, kindness and courage.
In Maths, we will begin the year by focusing on place value, ensuring that children are secure in their knowledge
of numbers up to 1,000,000, including negative numbers and rounding skills. Following this, we will be moving on to securing the children’s knowledge of calculation, beginning with methods for the four operations and the application of these to problem solving contexts.
Class Information
Our classroom will be located in the main school building on the end of the KS2 corridor and we will be sharing a cloakroom with Mr Steeple’s class. There will be more information about our PE days, homework and school visits coming soon on Dojo.
