Miss Poole
Meet your teachers
I am so pleased to welcome you all to what I am sure will be a fantastic year.
I’m really looking forward to getting to know each of you. I am sure we will all get on really well. We have lots of exciting things planned for your first year in KS1 and I can’t wait to get stuck in!
My name is Miss Poole and I have been teaching at Aston Hall since 2016. I have taught across both Key Stage 1 and Foundation Stage throughout my teaching career. I adore teaching as it gives me so much joy to watch children learn and grow.
At home, I have a little, mischievous kitten called Billy who I love to pieces! In my spare time I love to read a good book. I’m a huge nerd for Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings. One of my favourite things to do during the school holidays is visit art galleries. My favourite artist is Da Vinci and I have travelled abroad to see lots of his work.
Meet your Teaching Assistants
Miss Bell
Hello, I’m Mrs Bell and I’ve worked at Aston Hall School for just over 10 years now. In my time here, I’ve been an SMSA and help to run Breakfast Club. More recently I have become a Teaching Assistant working across both EYFS and Key Stage 1 – I absolutely love my job! I especially like to help children with their Phonics. I was once a former pupil of Aston Hall and both my children have attended here too.
In my spare time I love to travel with my family exploring new places and love going for long walks with my dog Bonnie.
Mrs Gray
Hi my name is Mrs Gray. I’m new to Aston hall as a teaching assistant but know the school very well due to my 3 boys attending. I’ve got serval years of experience working with children at other schools and I’m really looking forward to building new relationships with all of the children at Aston Hall.
In my spare time I love to travel and explore new places with my husband, children and our dogs Milo and Roxy in our campervan.
Miss Pearson
My name is Miss Pearson. I have worked at Aston Hall since September 2023. Previous to this I worked in a SEND college. I currently support our children who have additional needs over in Rainbows. I love my job and enjoy watching them grow and love helping them achieve and celebrate their milestones. I have 1 little boy called Joseph. Out of work I enjoy taking my little boy to the park, play areas and trips away.

Areas of Learning
Phonics:
Within Year 2 we will teach Little Wandle Phonics daily for the first half term. We will then move onto the Little Wandle Spelling programme in Autumn 2 and Spelling will be taught once a day from that point on.
We also teach 30-minute reading sessions which focus on comprehension. We aim to expand children’s inference, prediction and retrieval skills as well as developing their understanding of vocabulary. You can help this at home by reading with your child daily and asking your child questions about what they have read. We will listen to your child read in school and provide them with a reading book matched to their phonics or fluency level.
Class Information
In the Autumn term we will be learning about places that are familiar to you already in History and Geography- Our School and our Local Area! We will be learning about how schools were different in the past and compare to schools in the present. As part of our Geography we will be going on walks around the local area and completing fieldwork and looking at our school grounds and Aston. Our first Novel Study text for KS1 is still
to be confirmed, but we will also be focusing on ‘Into the forest’ by Anthony Browne in Autumn 2.
In Science we will be learning all about Humans! We will look at how humans grow and the functions of different parts of our bodies. Within Maths we will be starting off by learning about place value and then moving onto addition and subtraction. We will have a big focus on learning number facts such as number bonds to 10/20 and their related facts as this will help us for the rest of Year 2.
Keep an eye on our class dojo page throughout the term as we will be updating it regularly with messages, pictures and information about current learning. Homework in KS1 is through a ‘menu system’. Each half term children will receive a homework sheet with a selection of activities to complete and return each week. They can select their own activity to complete. Homework is sent out on a Friday and we expect it to be handed in by the following Wednesday. We will also be assigning learning on IXL that is relevant to our class focus within Maths.
